Great easy-to-make recipes!
The recipes in this book don’t require that you purchase expensive, hard-to-find ingredients. I bought this book because I have never made my own skin/hair care or bath and body products, so I wanted to start with recipes that a novice could make successfully. I was not disappointed! The first recipe I tried, grape seed lotion, turned out great! I will be making many more body care products using the recipes in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about trying to make their own beauty products at home but doesn’t know where to start. The author provides a description of the ingredients and equipment she uses which I found very useful. I was able to find the ingredients I needed at my local co-op, but any health food store should stock them or you can find them online. You should be able to buy beeswax from your local beekeeper. I now feel confident that I can make my own products at home, thanks to this book.

Loving this book!
I became interested in making my own beauty products for about one year now which is about when i bought this book. It is truly incredible. It is full of interesting and easy to follow recipes. The list of beauty ingredients in abc order is wonderful because it exlains the use of items and where you can find them. I just cant stop reading this book over and over again. I try new recipes and then read more and try more. I bought Cox’s other book “beauty for the seasons” (gift giving) it too is great, but this one is the best beginner and experienced person’s choice.I highly recommend it.

Super, easy recipes
This book is great for a beginner like me. The ingredients that are required are either already in the home or easy to find. It asks for things like olive oil, baking soda, liquid soap, rose water, glycerine, pine needles, lavendar flowers, etc. The recipes for beauty treatments are usually small in quantity. You can learn to make cold creams, night creams, facial masks, bath salts, lip balms, massage oils, plus other things. You can add essential oils or fragrances or make frangrance-free potions for sensitive skins. Some of the recipes are said to be very old. Lye soap recipes are included, if you want to go that route. I am anxious to make gift baskets of personalized beauty and bath potions for my friends and family. It is so simple.

this book is a great place to start
If you are ready to experiment with some new ideas, this book is a great place to start! I have been enjoying trying the recipes but be ready to make adjustments to tailor them to your needs. But isn’t that the point of this in the first place? Overall a very good resource. My current favorite is the Australian Hand Cream – it is great on my very dry skin this winter.

What a great idea!
I bought the original edition of this book in 1994 when I was a teenager, but lost it when I moved a few years later. I loved it so much that when I couldn’t find it in any bookstores, I ordered it from here, and was thrilled to find that it had been updated with new recipes. I’ll admit that a few of the ingredients aren’t easy to find, (I had to special-order Irish moss and stearic acid powder on the Internet) but it’s so worth it once you actually get around to making the product. (The Basic Cold Cream is my favorite recipe; it will thicken correctly if you stir briskly with the pointed end of a skewer for five minutes during the cooling process) Who knew that making your own beauty products could be not only money-saving, but fun? This book even got me interested in a rare hobby that I never would have guessed I’d get into: Soap-making! (I had to special-order lye, too) Thank you, Janice Cox, for this gem of a book.

Wonderfully Natural Book
Great book. The ingredients and materials listed are very helpful, I also enjoy all the revised ingredient substitutions for her recipes. The fun facts and history were insightful and definitely make this whole book worth reading. The images have a classic feel in green and black and the natural recipes are easy and inspiring. Would definitely recommend!

Useful and creative
Has been a must have for my natural life style for years. I keep going back to it and I love that with natural products you can mix and match. It does a great job of detailing recipes for your goal or skin problem. It has some “advanced” type of recipes with ingredients that you may not already have in your home but plenty that are made with just common household ingredients from the pantry and fridge.

An absolute dream to read, fun things to make and above all anyone can make most of the things in this book. Not difficult to source anything which may not already be in your kitchen now online shoping affords us the ease of finding natural ingredients.I have made a number of the things and have only had my book 2 days.I would say you don’t have to be talented to make the cosmetics in this book, just enthusiastic. I have had a brilliant 2 days playing and this book is a great investment. I doubt in truth, I will need to buy any commercially produced skin care ever again. So saying I am a fully qualified beauty therapist in the U.K, my standards are high, I am fussy what I put on my skin!!!Give it a go!

In this book you’ll find a lot of great natural recepies to make natural products for your skin, face, hair, nails…… You can even use these recepies to create these products and give them as a great. Way more affordable than buying products in salons and here, you know what you are putting on your body.

I have seen this type of book before and found them instantly appealing but in practice they stay on the shelf gathering dust as the remedies involve too much faffing about – I want easy-to-make recipes that I will use. I started to browse this book and ended up going cover to cover. These are simple ‘recipes’ using readily available substances for cosmetics that I will actuallly use. The text is informative – not preachy – and aimed at normal people, not extremist eco-warriors who think nothing of knitting their own curtains. I’m thinking of buying a few more as Christmas/birthday presents for friends and family. This won’t be gathering dust
