Great Product
I really like Defferin. Now that it’s over the counter, it’s game over. I have extremely sensitive skin, I can’t wear certain makeup or use certain brands because of how sensitive it is. I break out or get hives with this sensitivity. I also have combo skin, with acne mostly around my chin (hormonal) with occasional T zone pimples. I have been using this on my skin, with a moisturizer, as it’s drying, and my skin is clear. I use the moisturizer-defferin-moisturizer philosophy. My skin is even clear from hormonal acne. I use it very sparingly. A little goes a long way. It doesn’t smell like anything. If you do decide to use this on its own, it can be extremely drying. It’s clear in consistency, so I don’t notice any streakiness. It’s not oily either. The bottle is very effective at getting all the product out. Definitely recommend if you are battling with mild to medium breakouts. It also really helps with pore size. I have larger pores and it’s really shrunk the appearance of them.NOTE: If you go into the sun without sunscreen (or even with) it can make your skin more susceptible to sunburn. I did learn this the hard way.

Works better than OTC retinol products for acne control
At the two week mark and I’ve been using it every day. Haven’t had a severe breakout yet. Hyperpigmentation (dark spots from healed acne) is starting to fade. Oil production has slowed a little bit, but not so much that my skin is completely dried out. I’m still having to clear my pores daily. I’ve had a little bit of skin irritation around the corners of my eyes and nose, but not much.

I was breaking out for months, the worst I had since I was a teen. I was trying different retinols and I know there is a purge period for a while, I’ve dealt with that with different exfoliants. This was so bad tho, very deep, painful acne all along my jaw and neck with no end in sight. After giving it about two months I couldn’t stand the constant angry breakouts anymore and quit using my retinol thinking that must be the culprit. Well my skin didn’t improve much. I’m sure the retinol made it worse and I probably didn’t give it enough time, only two months, but I think now I’ve probably been dealing with hormonal acne. I’m 28 and apparently hormonal acne along your jawline in mid to late 20’s women is very common. Well I started using this and almost immediately my acne started clearing up. It’s taken time as I had a lot of acne and scarring from the last few months but it’s gotten so much better over the last month. It is EXTREMELY drying! Make sure you have a good moisturizer to apply after. Also keep it away from your eyes, I wasn’t applying it around my eyes but even if it got too close to the outside of my eyes when I was applying it to the sides of my face it left the outside corners of my eyes red and irritated. As my skin has gotten used to it however the irritation has stopped and my skin doesn’t dry out quite as bad. Definitely worth it if you have acne prone skin! The first picture is not my skin at it’s worst, at it’s worst I had at least three times as many blemishes, I just wasn’t taking pictures at that time because it was so bad. The second picture is only a few active blemishes, the rest is scarring that’s fading from the breakouts and you can tell a bit how bad it was before it healed. I’ll try to remember to update in a month with a new picture.Update: 1.5 years later and I use this once or twice a week. I rarely break out anymore and if I do it’s because I’ve been lazy and skipped my skincare routine a few days in a row. Definitely worked to keep my breakouts to a minimum along with my moisturizer and naturium mandelic acid which I also use regularly.

I’ve heard of Differin Gel my whole life but never used it. I was missing out! This helped improve my skin texture. I don’t have acne but I have an uneven rough skin tone and this helped tremendously. The only thing I would mention is to avoid your eye area, otherwise 10/10.
