Very Informative Book – An Absolute Must Read
After reading so much literature in the form of books and articles over the past few years on the topic of osteoporosis I finally have a book that really explains everything so clearly! Every page is a gem of information on how to live with this difficult “disease”. Dr Lani explains the ins and outs of osteoporosis drugs, all different kinds of alternative therapies we can consider, the array of vitamins and minerals we need to take to build stronger bones and in the form and amount that we need them, the important role that digestion plays, and much much more. I am 72 and have severe osteoporosis and this book is a game changer for me because I can see where the supplements I’ve been taking can be improved and there are evidently alternative therapies that I didn’t know about that can make a difference in my bone health. I’m far from done reading it and I’m sure there will be other caveats that will be essential to know as well. Thank you Dr Lani, for writing this totally life changing book!

    Very Best Bone Health Book!
Best book I have read on bone health! If you are concerned about your bone health as I am, this is your go to book. This author explains everything in layman terms. So happy I ordered it!

Excellent indepth resource book for understanding bones.
This is a great resource book for anyone who is diagnosed with osteoporosis. Helps the understanding of bone health, bone density testing and choices one can do the mitigate the loss of bone as we age.

The book is better than her PBS special
I was reluctant to order this after seeing Dr. Lani Simpson’s special on PBS during pledge week. We were very unimpressed with how little info she offered on her TV show. But I looked at all the reviews and some of her other online stuff and did think her mentions of oatstraw and nettle on her show were intriguing so went ahead and took the chance. (Strangely, nothing on either of those in the book! Where I had been hoping to learn more. So I went online and found answers.) We were pleasantly surprised and found it very useful and found that the book offers a lot of good info and framework for thinking about how to optimize bone health. See my other review on another good bone book, Thanks for your review of Your Bones: How You Can Prevent Osteoporosis and Have Strong Bones for LifeNaturally, for reasons to read more than just one book on this subject if you are seriously concerned about getting the best results. Opinions differ and each author goes into different areas that the reader should parse out for him or herself.

  5. Rod Freeman

Well written, straight forward, informative about western medicine and holistic approach
excellent book. I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, this book helped me understand what I have and steps to take to stop the degeneration of my bones

  6. Dr. Christine H. Farlow

    Good for DEXA Scan info
This book has good info on DEXA scans, but the best book on osteoporosis overall is Great Bones by Dr. Keith McCormick.

Excellent and essential book for patients and doctors
This is a must read book for patients and practitioners. It is packed full of useful information. I wish that in a follow up book that Dr.Lani addresses more specific types of bone strengthening exercise programs. Currently, her comments on this issue are too broad. Also, more data is now available on the spontaneous bone fractures that occur if you stop taking Prolia. This information should also be updated.Essentially, once you start Prolia you can’t get off of it.

    A highly recommended read
I found Dr. Simpson’s No-Nonsense Bone Health Guide to be a comprehensively thorough, clear, and objective look at the science of bone health, density scans, medication treatments, and possible alternative (or additional) approaches to managing bone loss and improving bone integrity. I came to be especially grateful for this book after my most recent density scan when I was told that I had a 9% decline in my hip bone. One doctor I spoke with told me that I needed to get on medication immediately–“Time is running out.”Having read Dr. Simpson’s book, I knew that such a decline–especially in only one year’s time–is extremely rare. So I consulted with my primary care physician and then had blood work done to ensure that there was no other underlying problem. There wasn’t, and so I requested a second opinion from a certified clinical densitometrist. She assured me that an obvious error had occurred in a prior scan, seriously skewing the comparison with my most recent one. Had I not read Dr. Simpson’s book (I’ve read numerous books on osteoporosis and Dr. Simpson’s was the only one that talked in detail about how density scans are evaluated and what the numbers mean), I would not have known to question what I was told and would most likely be taking medication prematurely and very possibly unnecessarily. This book has been a godsend, and I highly recommend it.

What a great resource. Thank you!

Great book to further knowledge with straightforward advice

    Good read

Being recently diagnosed with early and severe osteoporosis I was looking for information on this condition that was recent and clear for the average reader and could also offer a sense of direction. Lani’s book was that and more. She explains the possible causes of osteoporosis, and presents impartial and in depth medications, side effects, diet and lifestyle suggestions to cope with this diagnosis. I found this book to be very enlightening and practical at the same time. It gave me direction and helped with a difficult decision making process regarding treatment options. I highly recommend this health guide for both men and women.

I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and wanted to research the pros and cons of taking the medications offered to me. I found this book very informative and extremely helpful in making my decision not to take prescribed medication and treat this in a more holistic way, it also enable me to question my Z score rather than my T score which showed I have osteopenia rather than osteoporosis and medication is not recommended at this stage, so I now take a high dose of calcium and vitamin D 3, and continue to exercise and eat healthily. I feel all women who go into menopause who don’t take HRT should be aware of bone loss caused by the lack of estrogen and need to take a supplement to keep their bones healthy.
