I liked this book so much I sent additional copies to my inlaws and aunt! Lots of great info about fiber, probiotics, fermented food, etc. It is easy to be overwhelmed by all the gut health “facts” and “shoulds” out there, but this really makes it easy to see which are scientifically supported and so what changes you might actually want to make in your life to support your health. Great book, highly recommended!

Little specific useable information
Read about half, looked through the rest. There is shallow, often vague and repetitive coverage of a very wide range of topics. Those of us who have subdued a chronic ailment to a manageable problem know that the solutions are very specific both to the condition and the individual. Doctors and homework are required. This book is more like a chatty glossary with little applicable detail. A more positive aspect are the cautions against the multitude of unsupported claims.

It also has sections dedicated to specific groups such as Pregnancy, Birth and Infancy, for Children and Teens and another for older adults.What I appreciate most about the book is its strict reliance on peer reviewed science that underlines all the author’s suggestions, information, tips and advice. Often accompanying any new field of science are hype, outlandish claims, scientifically unsupported statements and all manner of “snake oil” products. You won’t find any of this in Gut Health for Dummies. In fact, there are several sections in the book that enable the reader to spot baseless claims and unreliable science.Finally, many of the suggestions on how to improve gut health are simple things that one can do, such as modest changes to diet, exercise and sleep patterns. The section on gut-friendly recipes is also helpful.
