To good to use handy and safe
From very long time I was planning to buy this as I cook 3 meals daily I must say it’s super handy and must have item in the kitchen to use and one of the best and easy source to get iron as in old age we use iron utensils for most of the cooking but now a days with changed utensils I highly recommend this IRON natural source . It’s very easy to use and clean .
I Think –
Could work, seems safe, but can rust; has pros and cons
I heard about these iron fish years ago, and even though this isn’t the name brand I trust, I thought I would try it. I take iron supplements daily because I’m iron deficient. Something like this looks like a good way to add iron to my diet.KEY POINTS:- No storage pouch or twine included- Lead test came out negative- Can’t be left wet when drying (it can rust)- Can damage certain cookware- Slight metallic taste in bland food/liquid- I’m unsure if it helps- Actual dose of iron cannot be measured- Could help when you don’t have access to or can’t afford an iron supplementWHAT YOU GET:This iron fish comes vacuum sealed in plastic inside a box. It looks exactly like the product photo, and measures about 2.75 x 1.5 inches with a height of about a half inch at its center. It has a bit of weight to it, as expected. There is a whole for the eye of the fish, which looks like you could use to hang it with. You could string some thin rope or cooking twine through the hole and use that if you’d like. The fish has a metallic smell to it when sniffed up close.DIRECTIONS:The directions are a bit ambiguous and they are a little different on the box, in the product photos, and in the product text. On the box it says to boil in water and add lemon. This is also suggested in the product photos. Washing is suggested before use, but it doesn’t explain how to wash it. In the product text it says to boil the fish with some lemon or vinegar for ten minutes before using the fish in food. It says to dry it with a cloth and let air dry. I think leaving it wet will cause it to rust. I wouldn’t put it in the dishwasher. To use it with food, I think it’s best to add it to something with liquid content, so the iron can be absorbed. Things like stews, soups, sauces, oatmeals, and even drinks can work.MY EXPERIENCE:Just for peace of mind, I did a lead test on it, and it came back negative, which was reassuring. The fish can get very hot in hot liquids. I would suggest using a spoon or strainer to lift it out of cookware, and be careful not to drop it, as it could cause damage to cookware with certain coatings or made of certain materials. There is also the possibility of leaving marks on the bottom of the inside of some types of cookware. In foods and liquids that are more bland, my sensitive tastebuds can detect a slight metallic taste. In more flavorful or spiced foods it’s not noticeable.MY OPINION:I know cast iron pans can add iron the same way this does, and if you don’t use cast iron cookware, this is a nice substitute. The fish can rust if left wet, and it can damage cookware in some instances. I like that it’s a reusable source of iron. I can’t really tell if it has made any difference in how I feel as of yet. I can’t tell if it’s actually adding any amount of iron to my food, but I like that is an alternative way to add iron to my diet, and I can see it coming in handy if for some reason I run out of or don’t have access to my iron supplement. It’s easier for me to just take my iron supplements because I know the exact dose, however using this iron fish can save me money, and the cost could be justified with this fact. There are pros and cons. I leave it up to you to decide whether it’s worth a try.

Great for people like me who lack iron
I’ve had iron fish in the past and I’m so glad I ordered this because it’s easy to use, easy to clean and is a great way to get iron into your diet. This is perfect for myself and my toddler!

Easy way to add Iron
This is a great alternative to adding iron to your diet without taking supplements!Iron supplements are always so hard on my stomach so it’s been difficult to find an alternative. This cute little fishy is easy to use, just simply throw it in the pot while making, soups, sauces, pasta, anything with liquid! I don’t notice any added flavors to my food, everything seems to still taste the same. The fish is easy to clean and sanitize, boiling it in water with lemon helps clean off any left over residue from cooking.Be careful not to stir it around in your nice pans though! It can potentially scratch your pans. Overall I haven’t noticed too much of an effect, but I have noticed I don’t get as dizzy when I stand up too quickly anymore!

Love this idea!!
I’ve been using the iron fish supplement and it’s been a really simple way to boost my iron. You just boil it while cooking and it doesn’t change the taste of the food at all. I’ve noticed my energy feels a little better since I started using it. Super convenient compared to taking iron pills.
Anything but my real name –
Iron Tea, yum? Use with caution.
THIS IS FOR;Iron Fish for Iron Deficiency, Safe Cooking Tool to Add Fe to Food & Water Daily, Natural Supplement to Support Mineral Intake, Vegan DietIron Fish for Iron Deficiency, Safe Cooking Tool to Add Fe to Food & Water Daily, Natural Supplement to Support Mineral Intake, Vegan DietPRICE23.99GOOD:TASTEThis product doesn’t taste good. If you are picky about flavors it tastes bad, but to me it is tolerable. To me it tastes like drinking water out of an old pot or water hose. It doesn’t taste like copper, but there is definitely a metal taste when I drink it straight. You very likely have tasted water from a drinking fountain, from old pipes, or a cup that has been sitting a while. It is very maskable which is how they instruct you to use this, but drinking it straight gives you a better sense of its potency. Even consumed straight, however, it is tolerable to a person that isn’t picky and also understands the value of a drinkable iron supplement.EASE OF USEIts not hard to use this productIt says to boil it in water and mix in lemon (which is to mask the metal taste). This is essentially an iron tea. I suppose you could let it steep instead of actually boiling it, like really tea, but the dose you get could be differentLONG PRODUCT LIFEDepending on if you can prevent the fish from rusting you may be able to get longer use out of this fish than you would a similar costing supply of iron supplements, but this depends, especially on if you are offended by using this why its is rusted or not and your care to prevent rust which is inevitable since it claims to be pure iron.BAD:NO DOSAGE ADVISEMENTNo real dosage suggestion. Besides boil it in water, there is no advisement on how to drink this, when, what it should taste like and the conditions on which to stop. You don’t know how long to boil this for, or how different boiling the water and letting the fish steep is from boiling the fish in the water. Most product will give your a recommended dose or serving, this is true for iron pills and potato chips. The amount of iron is certainly less that a pill, but approximately how much less? As a consumer, I wonder, and these open questions could prevent someone else from choosing product much less using it properly.POSSIBLE CONTAMINANTSThis product if from China which is not known for its safe food. It already tastes like metal, so how would you know you are not consuming lead? In order to know how safe this product is, you would need to get this tested in a lab to know that there aren’t any harmful heavy metals like cadmium, lead, arsenic, or mercury. There is a history of heavy metal contamination in products manufactured in China, ranging from makeup to foods. The page I ordered this from and the name of the brand on the box did not make the country of origin information clearly visible. Even though the product page states OXIROS US, the product is manufactured abroad in China. In addition to this , over the counter health supplements are not necessarily well regulated in the US, since they are not technically used to treat conditions even product made in the US can have contaminants, but seeking damages from US based companies is easier than companies abroad. This is all my general concern when I use this product, and why I don’t feel comfortable easily recommending it to others. Unfortunately, I just look at this with suspicion even though I know it could be an alternative to my iron pills which is a concern for vegans and those with deficiencies. This is the sort of product that needs some kind of assurance, or independent verification of cleanliness because even if you are getting levels of iron that benefit your health you may also be getting exposure to harmful substances attributed to manufacturing conditions that harm you in the long run. It seems very strange that any company would not be aware of this. The box contains no assurances that any tests, or measures have been done to make sure the product is free of contaminants. It states that it is 100% iron to its credit, but one might assume that a lump of iron is only made of iron if it doesn’t say its 1% copper, or lead, even if such an assumption is unwise.PRICEFor 24 dollars you could easily get supplements that make similar digestive safety claims, and those products would have more guidance on how to take them. Additionally, its possible the fish rusts before you finish a standard course of iron supplementation meaning you would be better off with over the counter iron supplements at a similar, or lower cost.If you are desperate for an alternative to over the counter pills, and prescriptions this is a good alternative to use with caution.
