Adhesive is strong, gentle enough
Supplements are difficult to review in terms of efficacy, but I can absolutely discuss the application and use.These little patches are easy to peel off the plastic backing, and they stick well to my skin, most of the time. I’ve experimented with placing them in different locations, and the only one I had it just peel off of was my upper thigh. I think this was probably because it’s a soft and highly mobile area, and it has the added friction of clothing that’s also moving a lot. Anywhere on my abdomen or upper arm is a good location.The directions say to not wear more than eight hours to avoid skin irritation. I have always stuck to the eight hour limit, and for the most part have avoided problems. One time I did have some mild irritation on my skin, but it hasn’t happened again.I don’t have any trouble taking pills, so I will generally stick to my oral magnesium supplements in the future. If you have trouble swallowing pills, or have medications that could be interfered with by an oral magnesium, these are worth a try.

I wanted to love these, but I didn’t notice any benefit for me or my daughter. It did not help with sleep, nor migraines, and many times I’d wake up, and the patch will have come off. Any other type of magnesium I’ve taken would typically work in a few hours and help with going and staying asleep; however, I didn’t see any benefit in these patches. I do love that they are very tiny and easy to apply, and that you don’t have to take any pills or drops. I am going to keep using them to see if there will be a difference with longer-term usage.

“PatchAid Triple Magnesium Complex” is an interesting product, offering a slow release of an active ingredient (here, magnesium) by applying it topically in a patch form. The product comes in a small paper envelope with a set of 5 films with 6 patches on each. The patches have a small size of 3 cm x 3 cm, they are not super visible on the skin especially under t-shirt. I use them already several days in a row, sometimes much longer than recommended 8 hr — they do not irritate my skin. I attached it to the upper arm/shoulder, and the patch stays in place until I removed it. I went to the gym every day, but my upper arms don’t sweat enough to test if patches’ adhesion could be affected by excessive moisture on the skin or not.The product description indicates that patches contain ~100 mg of magnesium (33 mg with 3 different magnesium types as Mg L-threonate, Mg Bisglycinate and Mg Taurate). I typically take chelated magnesium in tablets with also 100 mg concentration at night, as it promises some effects on muscle relaxation and better sleep. It is a new way to take supplements for me, and I am very interested to test its efficacy though it is rather difficult to do without actual nutritional testing.The product webpage and product envelope contain quite a limited information about the product. It would be great if it provides more information about where it was manufactured/made (right now it does not clearly indicate that it is produced in the U.S.A.). It’s also interesting to have further details or references if there were any clinical trials assessing the topical penetration efficacy of patch products. I found the official brand website, but it also lacks these important details.

I’ve reordered these patches several times. I use them overnight between my eyebrows to prevent those dreaded ‘eleven’ lines. Works like a charm 🙂
