This Recipe Book Changed My Life
I switched to a whole food plant based diet at the beginning of this year. And before I discovered the Food Revolution Network, I was really trying and struggling with looking up good and healthy recipes to try. After watching the food revolution summit, I became so aware of the importance of super food packed recipes and when I found this book, it completely changed my life. I use recipes from the book weekly. It has become a staple in my house. Mine and my husband’s favorite meal that I make is, is the peanut soup recipe from this book. And it really feels great knowing that everything I am eating in the recipe, is extremely beneficial to my health. Highly recommend for anyone interested in healthy plant based eating!

    Truly Excellent
Congratulations on a great cookbook. It arrived in perfect condition and is so beautiful I hesitate to take it into the kitchen. From the high impact information in the front to the tasty recipes in the back it is a job well done. I have tried two smoothies, a breakfast burrito, the bean and mushroom burger and the beet and lentil salad. All surprised me with how good they tasted. I will make small adjustments to the recipes to fit my needs (e.g., skip the salt and high sugar ingredients). Otherwise, I am happily working my way through the book. I photocopy a recipe and take it into the kitchen. Regarding the major criticisms I read, yes there are a lot of ingredients in some of the recipes. I feel this is what it takes to build tasty dishes that attract people away from the toxic Standard American Diet (SAD). Also, regarding the lack of nutritional information for each recipe; the first half of the book is filled with nutritional information on the foods in the recipes. A nutritional expert I follow (Dr. Fuhrman) indicates that if we commit to eating the right foods, it becomes unnecessary to crunch numbers. The eating patten will take care of you.Much impressed, aesthetically pleasing, very useful. My holiday shopping list is complete.

    Loaded with good information
I read all the information about each superfood and was surprised that sweet potatoes had so much nutritional value. At the market today I picked up several sweet potatoes and plan to add them to my meal planning. I have not tried any recipes yet, but I would like to make a comment about measuring ingredients by the cup. A cup of flour or a cup of liquid is easy to follow, but three cups of Arugula is not precise. Is it three loose cups or three tightly packed cups? I wish writers of cookbooks would express such measurements by weight. It’s a minor issue because once I try a recipe for the first time, I make notes on the page to adjust the amounts or add additional ingredients to suit my taste. The recipes all fit my whole food – plant base diet that I have followed for the last ten years. I will try most of the recipes and I expect there are some super-delicious finds in this cookbook. Right now I give this cookbook five stars.

    smart layout
I am giving this five stars only for the organization of this cookbook. I have not yet tried any of the recipes but the full color pictures included in the pages make every recipe look wonderful. Following the discussion of each superfood is a listing of the recipes that use this ingredient. The only negative I had for this was the absence of the page numbers for each noted recipe. It doesn’t take a great amount of time to find the recipe and write down the page number for each. so this is not a great deal breaker. At the top of each recipe there are coded pictures of each superfood that is included in the recipe which makes it very helpful. I have tried some of the recipes that Ocean Robbins has on the Food Revolution Network and they were very good, so I am confident that these will be as well. The recipes themselves look fairly easy to make and include ingredients that should be readily available in any supermarket.

    Good Recipes, Nursery School Names
I bought this book for the recipes because I have enjoyed the recipes published online by Ocean’s Food Revolution Network and admire the work that he and his father have done. I confess I did not read the first half of the book, a discussion of Superfoods, because such information is widely available elsewhere.I have tried about a half dozen of the recipes and liked them all. The photos are well done and helpful. The reason I didn’t give the book five stars has to do with the names of the recipes. For example: Last night, I prepared the collard lentil wraps. Wonderful. But if I want to make this recipe again in six months, will I find it in the index under “collard” or “lentil” or “wrap”? No. The only entry in the index for it is “Rockin’ Rollin’ Lentil Sausage Breakfast Wraps”. No recipes are indexed according to their ingredients; they are indexed only by their cutsie names. These names make it impossible to find anything in the index and make the table of contents difficult to scan. Other examples include “Fill Me With Warmth Tempeh and Kale Salad”, “Enlighten Me Matcha Muffins”, “Bright and Fruity Blueberry Lemon Bars” and “Oh-So-Sweet Green Tea Pistachio Nice Cream”. Newsbreak for Ocean: Your readers are not three years old.If Ocean publishes a sequel to this book, I hope he will take a more mature approach to the names and provide more extensive indexing. In the meantime, I will make a point of bookmarking my favorite recipes so that I do not waste time hunting for them in the index.

This book is fantastic. We really struggled knowing what to eat when we went whole food plant based last year, wish it had been out then. The book has so much variety and has recipes that are really tasty which would also appeal to our carnivorous friends. It has lots of extra useful information I particularly like the nuts & seeds section with the nutrient info and benefits. Well done authors, really looking forward to doing more of the recipes.

I collect cookbooks, I have well over 100 with limited space for more, so a new one has to deliver! Real Superfoods does just that and more. It teaches you why you might want to make a certain dish because of a specific health impact it could have. It’s beautiful to hold and read. And it’s cutting edge nutrition science!

I preordered this book but wanted to try some recipes before I left a review. First of all, the information was a great read. Sometimes I lose interest in the information half of other cookbooks but this one kept my attention. Very well written and educational. It is clear from the first chapter that the authors put a lot of work into this book. The recipes I have tried have all been very good. The first one I made was the ‘comforting cauliflower lentil kitchari’ and it was amazing! This cookbook is worth every penny and I would highly recommend.

  10. marielle122

This book is full of delicious recipes. I tried the carrot cake and it is heavenly. The drinks are so good and the explanations of the benefits of these superfoods motivate to try them all. A very productive collaboration between the two authors. Well done!
