Good for people who are looking to get started in adding Herbs to their daily routines.
Good beginners book. I’m not new to Herbal Medicine, but I did like the history of the different nations and cultures that use herbs in their daily lives. Herbal medicine is all about “Prevention over Cure”. And like in Ayurveda from India, “Let food be your cure” is also stressed in the book, well done. Holism, taking into account the entire person is accounted for and looking at the whole person body, mind and soul is addressed. Lots of daily use ideas too. Overall, good coverage of Herbal medicine and natural remedies. Get started, Herbs are great. I’ve been making my own tinctures for years. M.

Take me back to my childhood
I’ve been looking for books to boost my health and maintain consistency, so I chose The Beginner’s Book of Herbal Medicine and Natural Remedies because I remember how my parents used natural remedies instead of medication in many cases while I was growing up. The author begins with the history of herbal medicine and its cultural significance worldwide, which I found both engaging and educational. The book covers various natural remedies, highlighting the flavors and health benefits of different herbs, and includes guidance on growing and preserving them. However, I rate this book three stars—not because of poor writing but because it contains a lot of helpful information. Still, I found the content somewhat repetitive across chapters, which made it feel a bit monotonous.

Heal yourself the natural way
A helpful guide to creating at home remedies from fresh herbs, and it even has a guide to help you grow, dry, and cure herbs properly. This book isnt dense or over complicated recipes that anyone can get started with. I liked the glossary for quick reference on herbs. The book covers a history of holistic healing and herbal medicine, showing that this approach works well. I found the book educational on the future of herbalism and overall alternative medicinal lifestyles.

Healing With Simple Herbs
This book is a gentle and helpful guide if you’re just starting with herbs. I liked how it explains things in a simple way, and the steps are easy to follow. It shows you how to make teas, salves, and other remedies at home, which I found fun and useful, especially as a mom who likes natural options. It also gave me ideas for growing a few herbs in my kitchen window. I don’t have much space, so that part was perfect. If you want to try more natural ways to stay healthy without feeling overwhelmed, this is a good book to begin with.

Bought this book for my sister, who has been wanting to explore natural remedies but didn’t know where to start. She told me it helped her understand how to safely use herbs for everyday health and even try simple recipes at home.

Helpful information and learned a lot of herbal remedies

This book is a fantastic resource!I like the idea of looking at health as a system and not trying to fix issues with metaphorical bandaids. There are so many natural remedies that we can try, and many are inlcuded in this book. Traditional knowledge is so important, but has been largely ignored by the North American medical system for too long. The author says that complementary medicine is being taught in medical school now (again.) I hope so. There has been too much focus on drugs to treat symptoms in the past 50 years or so. They have their place, but so does complementary/traditional medicine. OK, rant over. There is so much info in this book from including common herbs in your daily life/cooking, to making your own essential oils! I’ve been making notes the whole way through! For me, the stess relief and digestive aids are going to be top on my list to try.And who knew that mint repels ants?? Home made cleaners and air freshening ideas. We have a few herbs growing in planters, but reading this makes me want to grow more of our own fresh herbs. And now I have some great pruning, harvesting and storage tips!

This book made herbal remedies far less intimidating and complicated for me and I see now how easy it is to make various remedies and with very little equipment or spending. I have other herb books, but this one is precise and perfect for what I wanted it for. Most of these herbs I will be growing this next year. This book will most definitely help anyone and everyone that wishes to learn about various ways to use herbs. great recipes for natural salves, lotions, teas, tonics, tinctures, herbal remedies, bath products, poultices, liniments, cough syrrups, herbal pills, and more in this book. It’s a beginners guide and user friendly.

The origins of herbal medicine from China, India, Africa, North America and Europe are covered at the outset. The book then fast forwards to today, noting that many people are turning to herbal medicine from conventional medicines. Growing and preserving herbs are described along with various preparations and applications. Innovations and trends round out book with speculation on the future. A great read for someone interested in learning more about herbal medicine and its uses for various ailments.
