A comprehensive reference tool for maximizing healing of the mind, body, and spirit through a holistic synergy of Chinese medicine and Ayurveda
• Details the foundational principles of each tradition and the many concepts they share, such as qi and prana, meridians and nadis, and energy centers and chakras
• Provides tools for self-assessment including a primer on tongue diagnosis and a mental, emotional, and physical constitutional questionnaire
• Offers breathing exercises, dietary regimens, herbal recommendations, and guides for detoxification, including safe and gentle at-home cleansing
Chinese medicine and Ayurveda are two of the oldest healing systems in use today. Each is a complete art, in and of itself, and has profoundly contributed to the health and well-being of millions of people around the world. Drawing on their shared roots and spiritual principles, Bridgette Shea, L.Ac., MAcOM, shows how these two practices integrate seamlessly, with the two traditions’ individual strengths harmonizing to form a practical basis for prevention, wellness, detoxification, and treatment.
The author explains the foundational principles of both Chinese medicine and Ayurveda in detail, providing the reader with a working understanding of both disciplines. She examines shared concepts such as qi and prana, meridians and nadis, and energy centers and chakras. She explores the strengths of each practice, such as the clinical efficiency of diagnosis and the use of acupuncture for pain relief, improving fertility, and stress reduction in Chinese medicine and the dietary, detoxification, and spiritual guidance of Ayurveda, including the detox branch of Ayurveda known as Panchakarma. Moving beyond theory into practical application, she explores the Elements, known as the Five Phases and the Panchamahabhutas, and how they affect our well-being. She provides tools for self-assessment including a primer on tongue diagnosis and a mental, emotional, and physical constitutional questionnaire. Offering treatment and prevention strategies that draw from both disciplines, she encourages the reader to implement an integrated practice of these two systems in daily life or clinical practice. She details breathing exercises, dietary regimens, herbal recommendations, and guides for detoxification, including safe and gentle home cleanses, all rooted in the holistic synergy between Ayurveda and Chinese medicine.
Sharing case studies that highlight the interconnectedness of these approaches, Shea provides a comprehensive guide for self-healing of body, mind, and spirit and a practitioner’s resource to cross-reference complex questions with respect to both healing traditions.

Beautifully written.
Bridgette Shea takes two complex and, for westerners, foreign, modalities and beautifully describes and explains how they relate to one another and to the western approach to health care. An invaluable resource for the person just beginning to explore either of these ancient approaches to the body, mind and spirit. As a Licensed Massage Therapist, an RN, and now a student of restorative yoga therapy, I have been introduced to Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, but this book helped me really begin to have some basic understanding of it for the first time. With other books and even with live instruction, I always just felt lost and overwhelmed by how different these systems seem than the western model. So basically I would just give up trying to understand. Now, I feel excited to finally be bridging to a new and larger understanding of these amazing systems. Bridgette Shea is both a true healer and a gifted teacher and writer. Buy this book.

Lots of good information!
This is a great book for anyone curious about how to improve functions in your body! i have acupuncture sessions regularly, and have recently discovered how much of a difference what I’m eating affects a lot of stuff in my body!! I think it’s really fascinating how tcm and Ayurveda are so similar, and I find both to be extremely helpful in living better. Bridgette has treated me using both methods, although I didn’t understand that until I read the book, but now I can better understand why things happen, and the causes are usually something I can adjust in my lifestyle to feel better! Fairly easy to understand, and DEFINITELY worth a read if you’re into it!

So much information!
Like an encyclopedia on everything involving Ayurveda and Chinese Medicine. I found myself recognizing aspects of myself and family members in the descriptions which provided me with great insight as I move forward on my holistic health journey.

An excellent guide towards regaining health through Eastern medicine
This book is fascinating and eye opening! If only our current Western medical model would fully embrace and integrate with Eastern philosophies, we may finally realize a decrease in so many diseases that plague or society today. Western medicine tends to treat the symptoms, as opposed to deeply investigating the root of the problem, which may go so much deeper than the physical body. Bridgette invites us to investigate the deeper layers by introducing the concept of chakras and energy centers as well as qi and prana, nadis and meridians. This book offers tools towards self assessment with treatment modalities that may offer alternatives to embrace a more holistic intervention.

A treasure of information on traditional Asian health and healing!
This book is a fabulous and informative journey into the world of tradional Asian health and healing. As a newbie into this genre, I was so impressed with Bridgette’s easily understood explanations and examples throughout the book. The glossary is a wonderful reference to refresh and clarify many terms which were new to me. In addition to the fascinating discussions on these ancient traditions, the author offers a wealth of suggestions for self-care, remedies, nutrition, and specific well-being practices. This book is a treasure of wisdom on Asian health and healing.

Informative, helpful guidelines to live your healthiest life.
If you would like an understandable and helpful guide to how your body functions and how to achieve optimal health this is the book for you. It will expand your perspective and enable you to use approaches you may not have been aware of as an adjunct to western medicine or as your treatment of choice. The information is invaluable, expansive, and easy to understand. I recommend the book rather than the kindle edition for easier access to the glossary and the helpful diagrams.

Excellent Handbook to Understanding A Holisitc Approach to Wellness
This book was my first real introduction to Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Practices as a required text for my Yoga Therapeutics training. What started out as “homework” quickly turned into an eye opening, easy to follow, guide to health, wellness and healing practices through holistic approaches for myself. I am grateful for this assigned reading as I have begun to integrate some of the lifestyle changes in my everyday life and feel a difference already.

Excellent book!

For anyone interested in Ayurveda and TCM, this is a gem. Bridgette puts a wealth of information, and makes this complicated information accessible so a layman can understand. As far as people who give negative reviews about this book, it is simply amazing that people can give 1 or 2 stars to a book of this quality. Additionally, anyone who claims to be a practitioner of these modalities and give it 2 stars, I would never let you touch me as your critical nature and negativity would not only corrupt your work, but would be a perversion of these healing traditions.
