Used for our bulldog mix
Our bulldog mix, Tootsie, has what’s called Flank Alopecia. Basically, her sides have very thin fur exposing her tender pink skin underneath. Our vet diagnosed her and said there were two ways we could treat. The first was using OTC melatonin twice a day for 3 months. The second was with prescription medication. I opted for the first treatment (obviously) as it is cheaper than the rx meds and I was hopeful it would work.So far (and we’re about 1.5 months into her 3 month treatment) her one flank is looking better but we have seen zero improvement on the other side. Our vet said that the veterinary dermatologist he uses recommends Nature’s Bounty specifically because “It’s the best”. I don’t know exactly what that means, but our vet is awesome, so I trust the recommendations from his peers.This melatonin does not seem to make her any more sleepy than normal (she’s a huge couch potato) and as I said previously, there does seem to be improvement on her one side. That said, I’m not as hopeful for a complete cure using just melatonin so I’m certain we will have to switch to a prescription medication in February.TL;DR – Have had zero problems with these capsules for our bulldog mix. She easily eats them with a spoonful of wet food every morning and every evening. No digestion problems or changes in her behavior or sleep patterns.
