Another Outstanding Guide by Windu Thorne
We really enjoyed Windu Thorne’s “The Herbal Odyssey – Volume III – Traditional Chinese Medicine: Exploring the Ancient Wisdom of Natural Remedies” so we were excited to see another one of his books available. Not much to say that wasn’t articulated in my previous review but Mr. Thorne is a deep and careful researcher and we are grateful for his extensive research and his willingness to share his knowledge.

A Rich and Inspiring Exploration of Herbal Healing
This book is a treasure for anyone interested in natural remedies, herbalism, or holistic wellness. Amelia Ruiz continues her “Herbal Odyssey” journey with a second volume that feels both educational and magical. The book beautifully weaves together the history, science, and spiritual traditions of herbal medicine, making it much more than a simple reference guide. What I loved most is the depth of knowledge paired with practical guidance. Each herb is introduced with its historical background, healing properties, and suggested uses, while the author also highlights safety tips and sustainable practices. The inclusion of cultural insights and folklore makes the reading experience truly enriching and memorable. The tone is warm and inspiring, encouraging readers to connect more deeply with nature and its healing gifts. Whether you’re a beginner curious about herbal remedies or an experienced herbalist expanding your knowledge, this book offers immense value.Highly recommended for anyone seeking to explore the wisdom of plants and incorporate natural healing into their daily life. It’s informative, beautifully written, and a joy to read.

Great guide into Holistic Medicine with Extensive History
As someone who has had a lifetime of health concerns ranging from minor or major issues, I have always been interested in different alternatives to healthcare. This book not only is great at explaining the history of Ayurverda (Indian Holistic Medicine) and the variations found within this practice, it also goes so far as to describe known Daily Rituals within Ayurverda. This is very helpful for those interested in trying out their practices to see the benefits and find how it can fit into their life.Along with these chapters it has extensive information on what they call “Herbal Monographs”. These are detailed profiles on different herbs found within the recipes, including Botanical Characteristics and Traditional Uses. This is very intriguing to those who want to know more about the herbs they are putting into or on their bodies and why they are beneficial. The last section is all recipes, which is the peak of the book. Not only can you find many types of health benefits from these recipes and center in on what exactly you need, but one fun feature I have not seen in other books is an average cost to make and tools needed to make for each recipe. This is SUPER helpful for those on a budget or starters who want to gather all the tools in advance to make all their recipes in one go.All in all thos book is a MUST for those looking to explore more alternative health options with extensive information and guidance in creature of each recipes. Just be prepared for LOTS of history and background.

Rich in detail and beautifully presented
Rich in detail and beautifully presented, this book is a wonderful introduction to Ayurveda and Indian herbal traditions. I liked the blend of history, recipes, and lifestyle advice, and the illustrations really bring it to life. Some sections felt dense, but overall it’s a valuable and inspiring guide.

The Herbal Odyssey: Vol 2 By Windu Thorne
This is a very informative and interesting book . Although it is volume 2, it can be read as a stand alone book. This book introduces concepts and ideas that give the reader a different perspective on what being healthy means. If you have the willingness to learn new words and ideas, this is a book to read.

I was familiar with the ayuverdic massages. One of the therapists told me that ayuverda was much more and specially about the herbs. This book was a revelation for me. I loved the basics of ayuverda at the beginning of the book. Very clear and easy to grasp. Dosha is my favourite word now. The book is written by someone who really loves Ayurveda. You can see it in the inclusivity (it contains so many compounds) and detail put into this book. It is impressive that each recipe has a cost and what tools are needed. The historical background/comments for each recipe was a beautiful touch for me. The last part of the book is thought provoking. How the West commercializes this ancient system or how it isolates the study of one compound vs appreciating it as whole. I am glad that I was introduced to the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda and I will pass it on as recommend in the book.
